The Pay Equity Committee at CNL has been working to develop a proactive pay equity plan. The committee is composed of bargaining agent representatives, including a PIPSC member and staff, non-represented employees and employer representatives.

Your CRPEG negotiations team met a number of times over the spring, summer, and fall to prepare for the next round of bargaining, where we will negotiate your next collective agreement with the company.  Your current collective agreement will expire on December 31, 2023. 

PIPSC members working at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories are now members of the CAAT DB Plus pension plan.  Members are strongly encouraged to transfer out their pension account balance.  Instructions on how to transfer funds to CAAT and a private locked-in RRSP are provided in

The Group members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of moving from the CERI pension to the CAAT pension. Your executive has asked CNL to move all further pension remittances to the CAAT plan. 

Official Signing of CRPEG Collective Agreement (2021–2023) The CRPEG Collective Agreement for 2021 January 01 – 2023 December 31 was officially signed in a ceremony held at CRL on 2022 September 06 afternoon.

The Chalk River Professional Employees Group (CRPEG), represented by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) reached a deal and voted in favour of a new collective agreement with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL).

Bargaining Update #8   Hello CRPEG Members, Another negotiations session has been set for July 20-22, 2021. In the meanwhile, your bargaining team is providing an update on two important issues: remote work and pensions. Remote Work

The CRPEG bargaining team met with the Company on May 25-27, 2021. The focus of this session was in receiving the company’s counter on pay.

The CRPEG bargaining team met with the company on April 27-29, 2021. The focus of this session of negotiations was on leaves with and without pay and other non-monetary issues.

Hello members, The CRPEG bargaining team met with the company on March 16-18, 2021. The focus of this session of negotiations was on MOAs and monetary issues. Progress continues to be made and the negotiations are proceeding in a collegial manner.

Hello members,

The CRPEG bargaining team met with the employer on January 19-21, 2021. The interchange between the two parties continues to be one of mutual respect with the goal of reaching a tentative agreement.

The CRPEG bargaining team met with the employer on Dec. 17 & 18, 2020. This meeting was a good start to the negotiations. A small number of administrative changes were agreed to and signed off. The negotiations will resume with dates in January and February, 2021.

Your CRPEG Negotiations Team has met a number of times to prepare for the next round of negotiations. Your current collective agreement will expire on December 31st, 2020.

Protecting our members’ pensions remains a top priority for PIPSC. On February 26, 2019 CRPEG President Jonathan Fitzpatrick was joined by Canadian Alliance of Nuclear Workers (CANW) representatives Steven Schumann and Matt Wayland  in a meeting with three members of the Opposition on Parliament Hill. The issue: the return of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories workers into a public service pension plan.

As of January 28, 2019 employees in CRPEG, USW 1568, and CUPE will not be able to enter time on their timecard using the Banked Time type but will start using Aggregate Time type.

With the transfer from active contributors to the Public Service Pension Plan complete some of our members have been approached with the “opportunity” to cash out their defined benefit pension plans and invest this money with a local financial advisor or investment advisor.

Your bargaining team met briefly with the company this morning (2018 June 20). Prior to meeting today, the company had discussed our proposal internally with the senior executive.
