Applicants must be the children or grandchildren of PIPSC regular or retired members in good standing (Rand deductees are not eligible). Applicants must be entering their first year of post-secondary education in autumn in a full-time post-secondary program at an educational institution (including cégep) in Canada or outside Canada.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online. Each application must include:
- a copy of your most recent report card or transcript
- a comprehensive, multi-paragraph statement detailing your leadership abilities and involvement in community service accompanied by at least two letters of reference. Additional points will be given for more than 2 letters of reference.
- a compelling, multi-paragraph statement about your career goals, future education and why you are a good candidate for the scholarship program.
- a 750-1000 word essay: Reflecting on PIPSC values and the past contributions of Canadian public service unions to the quality of life of Canadians, explore the future direction of unions and the challenges they may face.
The deadline for scholarship applications will be announced soon. Mailed or faxed applications will not be accepted.
Note to parents: The student should register for the scholarship application account, not the parent. Thank you.
Selection process
Applications are evaluated based on the student’s academic achievement, community service involvement, and the quality of their written statements. Essays will be judged on content, grammar, spelling, organization and presentation of goals.
All applications will be evaluated by an impartial evaluation committee. Applicants will all be contacted by email regarding the final status of their submission, and awards will be granted via mailed cheque in September.
For more information about the application process, please email scholarship@pipsc.ca.
Successful applicants
All applicants will be contacted regarding the status of their submission once final decisions have been made. Awards are only applicable to the coming academic year.
The successful candidates will be notified by mid-September. A cheque will be forwarded to the successful applicant once confirmation of enrollment in a post-secondary institution is received.
