It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Iris Craig November 4, 2018.  One of the Institute’s longest-serving Presidents, Iris Craig was first elected President on January 1, 1986 and retired on December 31, 1993. At that time, PIPSC represented 34,000 members under 52 separate occupational groups under 13 different employers.

Negotiations started on September 25 to September 27, 2018, between the Treasury Board Secretariat and the AV Group for a new collective agreement.

The AV Group Bargaining Committee is requesting information from our members (AU-CO-PG), who currently pay membership or registration fees to an organization or governing body when the payment of such fees is a requirement for the continuation of the performance of the duties of the employee’s position, to respond to this survey.

The first face-to-face bargaining session took place September 25-27, 2018. The next bargaining session is scheduled for December 11-13, 2018. Please find the proposals that were exchanged attached.

The positions of Vice-President and Treasurer are open for re-election. The term of office is 2 years.

The terms for all Board members begin January 1, 2019 and end December 31, 2021.

Members of the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) on November 3 concluded their Annual General Meeting, and weeks of voting, by announcing the re-election of Debi Daviau as PIPSC President for a further three-year term.

All the positions are for three-year (3) terms beginning January 1, 2019 and ending December 31, 2021.

President Debi Daviau gave a vibrant bilingual address. Of the many accomplishments over the past year, many were the result of long-term planning and many were the result of vital relationships built and maintained over time, and strengthened by both setbacks and success.

Members of the Bargaining Team for the SH Group met with the employer October 30 and 31, 2018 for the beginning of collective agreement negotiations.

Recently on October 17th, 2018, I had the chance to come out to Halifax to chair a Special AGM, along with AV Group President and Bargaining Chair Peter Gabriel and PIPSC A/Vice-President Nancy McCune.

The time has come to elect a new union Executive, as the mandate of the current Executive is coming to an end. In accordance with the Group By-Laws, an election for these positions must be held. All regular members of the NFB Group can be nominated as candidates.

On November 20th, the Transgender community in Ottawa will be remembering members of their community lost to violence and hatred. The commemoration will be held at the Human Rights Memorial on Elgin Street at 6pm. PIPSC is hosting a quiet reception after the event at the Lord Elgin Hotel for those affected by loss.

The Canadian Labour Congress, labour and community leaders will react to the federal government’s announcement of proactive pay equity legislation at a news conference on Parliament Hill on Wednesday.

The AV Group National Secretary Andrée Doucet will be in town on November 5th and will be conducting bargaining update.
