Regional Director’s Report – October 18, 2018 – Regional Executive Meeting

Period: September 1, 2018 – October 18, 2018

Our PIPSC National Elections are well underway and I would encourage everyone to review the bios of the various candidates and make their vote count. This is your chance to pick the individuals you want lead our Union over the next three years. As noted in my last Report, I have been fortunate to be acclaimed in the position of Regional Director for the BC/Yukon. Information on the National Elections can be found on our website. http://www.pipsc.ca/about/governance/elections-information/national

Board Initiatives

Pursuant to the board mandate letters, my focus over this last period has included:

  • Chair, Executive Compensation Committee (ECC)
  • Board Liaison, Science Advisory Committee and Science:
    • At is September BOD Meeting, the Board endorsed the recommendations developed by the Women in Science (Wis) Initiative! Wis, with support from SAC and staff, will further develop these recommendations for implementation or further funding/approval.
    • Since my last Report, as part of our Three-Year Science Strategic Plan, PIPSC released “Restoring Federal Science Capacity – A Fact Sheet” that highlights the on-going deficit in funding for government science and the need for further investment. http://www.pipsc.ca/about/governance/elections-information/national. This is a great tool for consultation in the workplace.
  • Assist in the delivery of the key results area of “Model Organization” in areas of governance and strategy planning for the Institute:
    • On-going work on the eight recommendations from the ECC’s memorandum on the ‘Authority of the Executive Committee (EC)’, as approved at the August BOD Meeting. .
    • Member of PIPSC’s Life Insurance Trust – Preparations continue for a new marketing campaign.

As always, information on Phoenix can be found on our website www.pipsc.ca Members impacted should follow the instructions on the website. Let me know if you have concerns (contact info below).

Over the past six weeks since my last report, efforts have focused on planning for the upcoming Steward Council and Young Professionals Forum. I was also able to participate in some Lunch and Learns for our new Civilian Members from the RCMP at both the Heather St. (Vancouver) and Green Timbers (Surrey) facilities. At our October Regional Executive meeting, we will begin planning for the next three years in the Region. As always let me know your thoughts, ideas and concerns.
