Hello everyone,
Since joining PIPSC's Social Health Group Executive as the Social Work representative a few months ago, I have now attended two SH group meetings and more recently, the AGM on 10 June in Ottawa.
This initiation period has been a whirlwind of learning. I am very glad to report that I am not only amongst friends with our colleagues from the other 8 professional groups that form our executive, but also amongst highly skilled, dedicated and hard working people who truly have all of our best interests to heart.
When I applied for the SW rep position, I promised to improve communication amongst us. With the recent ratification of our collective agreement coming just a year before we will have to return to the bargaining table with Treasury Board, I believe it is more important than ever for Social Workers to unite and have a strong voice. Whilst the new collective agreement will bring us some gains, there is still much work ahead to maintain, strengthen and improve our work conditions and salaries against increasing government cuts and outsourcing.
Over the next several months, I am hoping to hear from you. In service of our clients and ourselves, let's advocate strongly.
Please feel free to contact me to share your opinion about how you think we can do this together.
In solidarity,
Jeremy Mayer, M.S.W., R.S.W
