Candidate for Prairie/NWT Regional Director

William Stewart

(Regular member)

Following the decision for Nancy McCune to not run for re-election, and after several requests, I have decided to allow my name to stand for election to the position of Director Prairie/Northwest Territories Region. As the PNWT region has had the benefit of very dedicated, and well respected Directors over the last several years, I believe I am the person to carry on that tradition. PIPSC is an institute made of its members, and as Director of the PNWT I believe that the Director PNWT must speak at the board on behalf of the members of the region. The Director must also make the best decisions for both PIPSC and the region considering the mandate that the members provide.

In my current roles as MAL for the Nuclear Regulatory Group (NUREG) executive, I take special pride in representing NUREG members from all across Canada, but especially those who are not in the NCR, where the majoring of NUREG staff are located. As a member from a regional office on the executive, I bring regional issues and concerns to a table where the majority of elected officials are located in the NCR. I created the initial sub-group for NUREG in Saskatoon, and I have been the President since. I helped the second NUREG subgroup get established in Calgary. The creation of these sub-groups speaks to my effectiveness, in reaching out to our members. To encourage them to take a role in becoming active in NUREG and PIPSC. Finally, I sit on the Saskatoon Branch Executive, as a member at large. In that role I have supported the Branch in regular events. I bring these up as examples of my efforts to ensure that PIPSC stays relevant and visible to its members.

I have been a federal employee for 17 years, and a steward for almost 15. I have served on the NUREG Bargaining Team, the CNSC – NUREG Labour Management Consultation Committee, and been both a member and Co-Chair of the CNSC Policy Health and Safety Committee.

If elected I will continue to work tirelessly to represent the members of the PNWT Region at the board while ensuring that the actions of the board reflect what is best for the institute as a whole.

PLEASE VOTE FOR William Stewart for the position of Director Prairie/Northwest Territories region.
