Candidate for Prairie/NWT Regional Director

Samah Henein

(Regular member)

I’m blessed to be a mother of three wonderful adult children, and a supportive partner. I’ve had the privilege of serving Canadians as an auditor with the CRA for 19 years. My journey began with the inspiration of my mother, who fiercely fought for her rights. Her courage instilled in me a deep commitment to justice.

I make objective decisions as a board member, demanding facts and evidence before casting my votes with integrity. I am committed to responsible cost expenditures and preparing the next generation while eliminating silos between groups and regions.

Some of my achievements as director include:

  • Re-established the Young Professional Committee, leading to numerous successful events.
  • Increased our regional engagement by holding events concurrent with our executive meetings.
  • Piloted the Prairie first Anti-Oppression Labour School and training on Indigenous issues – shifting from words into action to ensure fairness and equality.
  • Ensured our stewards received advanced and innovative training, including a mental health course to support members facing fatigue and mental health issues.
  • Cultivated strong professional relationships at the national and regional levels, enabling effective advocacy for our region for member support and training.
  • Initiated the Peer-to-Peer Program during my tenure as the Training Education and Mentoring Committee Chair.

So, why am I the right person for this role?

  1. Experience: Having been a productive director, I will be able to hit the ground running. I am competent and skilled in governance, policies, and regional bylaws
  2. Courage and Tenacity: I am not afraid to ask difficult questions and persist until I receive the complete answers.
  3. Kindness: I act with unwavering respect, honesty, and integrity. I empower members who face barriers to get involved.
  4. Commitment to Improvement: I ensure that every initiative we undertake enhances the welfare and support of our members

I have worked with many of you, and together we have shown integrity and resilience helping Canadians through challenges and unsatisfactory work conditions. I will continue to support you to elevate your wellbeing.  You can count on me to pay attention to your needs and fight for your rights against employers’ unfairness.

To create the future we want, vote for someone who shares your values and ethics, addresses your concerns, and provides you with opportunities to participate.

Thank you for your support.
