Pensions

  • Joint Pension Council with the other NB Groups continues to forge ahead with a constitutional challenge with PIPSC council and the parties have completed the Discovery Hearings.

ENG III Classification (PDQ) Review

  • Many members were re-classified and a new grid of created between ENG 3 and ENG 4.  Some ENG 3 members moved up to a newly created ENG 4 and the ENG 4 members became ENG 5s.  This means that more members are being better compensated for the work that they do.

Areas of Concern

  • With our Agreement set to expire in May 31, 2019, bargaining is beginning to be talked about.  We’d hope to resolve “loose ends” left after the last round of bargaining.  A survey of NB Agreements was carried out and Group Presidents are set to meet and discuss.
  • With 2 new governments since the last ARC (currently a minority coalition between the PC and People’s Alliance) we are seeing significantly smaller budgets and the threat of more cuts.

Consultation

  • Provincial LMCC – This group met twice since the last ARC (October 31, 2018 and April 26, 2019) and have had very constructive discussions.  With respect to NBEN we discussed the issue of Recruitment and Retention, ENG III Classification, Harassment and Violence in the Workplace and the Vacation Pay-Out.

Departmental LMCC – New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (NBDTI) continues to have an active committee with management. The committee meets approximately 3 times per year (or as necessary) and solves issues not related to the contract.  We met November 28, 2018 and June 12, 2018.  Largest issues ongoing are:

  • Recruitment and Retention
  • Succession Planning
  • Designation/ Hours of Work
  • Performance Management

Current Contract is in place until May 31, 2019

Big thanks to the NBEN Executive and Stewards for all of their hard work.
