2023 Steward(s) of the Year

1. Eligibility

a) Steward

b) Member of the Ontario Region

c) Member in good standing

d) One nominee (individual) per application

2. Criteria 

a) The Steward of the Year will be awarded to an individual who has exhibited exemplary service in their role as a PIPSC union steward

b) This award is to highlight their efforts in serving their members in the year that it is awarded but may also reflect contributions in previous years. Examples of how the nominee has demonstrated exemplary service at the standard and level of a Steward of the Year is required.

c) Any nominee who has an existing complaint filed against them with the Institute may be prohibited from consideration.

3. Nomination Process

a) Please send your submission to Heather Kohli at hkohli@pipsc.ca by 5:00 p.m. Friday August 25, 2023.

b) As part of your submission, include the name of the steward and describe how the member has served their constituent body by referencing the following examples of how one would exhibit exemplary service.  

i)    Number of years in role of steward

ii)    Most recent year of attending:

1) Ontario Regional Council

       2) Ontario Steward Council

3) National AGM

4) Local constituent AGM

iii)    Number of grievances

iv)    Types of grievances

v)      Dealing with difficult situations on behalf of members

vi)     Promoting and defending rights of members

vii)    Involvement in Constituent Body

viii)   Resolving conflicts informally

ix)     Attending training

x)     Mentoring

xi)    Mobilizing members

xii)   Positive contribution to members and PIPSC

xiii)  Significant impact/ achievement/ change

xiv) Recruitment of stewards

4. Selection Process

a) A recipient of the Steward of the year award will be selected where the nominee has sufficiently demonstrated contributions pursuant to the criteria established.
