Bargaining Update #14: Your Pay, the Pay Tables and the Implementation Period

Dear SP colleagues,

It’s already been 2 months since your new collective agreement was signed by your bargaining team and Treasury Board.

We are still in the implementation period. Currently, both parties are verifying the translation. We will let you know once it’s done and we will have it available on the SP Group’s website at that time. This is regular procedure that happens in every round of bargaining.

We did hear that you might see some changes on your paycheck in the coming weeks. We will get the pay tables onto the website as soon as possible to help you verify your pay. That said, you can verify your pay this way:

Full Time Employee:

2017 Annual Salary = Basic Pay x 26.088

You can see an estimate of your 2019 annual salary by applying the following formula:

2019 Annual Salary = 2017 Annual Salary (from above) x 1.05082

To get an estimate of your new basic pay, use the following formula:

Basic Pay = 2019 Annual Salary ÷ 26.088

Part Time Employee:

2017 Annual Salary = (Basic Pay ÷ number of hours) x 1956.6

You can see an estimate of your 2019 annual salary by applying the following formula:

2019 Annual Salary = 2017 Annual Salary (from above) x 1.05082

To get an estimate of your new basic pay, use the following formula:

Basic Pay = (2019 Annual Salary x number of hours) ÷ 1956.6

If you have any questions about your salary, please ask your employer first. Then, if you still have concerns, contact your steward, Group Executive or Bargaining Team.

We want to emphasize that if your old salary was wrong there is a high probability that your new salary will be wrong as well. Additionally, this formula may not give the correct value to the dollar, but it should be very close.

Remember the Employer committed to give all members $400 to have more time to implement the collective agreement. Therefore, it might take a little bit more time to for your retro payment, leave, and other clauses to be implemented. However, language from the previous collective agreement is still in effect and your rights should be respected.

Thank you for your patience.

Better Together!
