The intent of this training is to provide information as well as an opportunity to expand your steward network. Detailed information about the agenda will be circulated in a subsequent memo closer to the school date. Please complete the on-line registration linked here.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION IS NOT GUARANTEED IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR ON-LINE REGISTRATION FORM BY January 10, 2020.

To be considered for this training, you must be a Steward that has completed Basic Steward Training. You cannot re-take a course you have taken within the last three (3) years unless the course has been substantially modified.  None of the courses offered in February 2020 have been substantially modified. We are offering a number of modules simultaneously to allow us to accept a large number of participants. Therefore, a maximum of 20 participants per course will be admitted. The Training modules offered for this School are the following:

We will be running two Leadership Essential courses from February 27, 28, 29, 2020. On the last day, there will be training on Mobilization for half a day.  A maximum of 40 participants will be allowed for these 2 courses.

Note:  Priority will be given to new stewards who take a 3-day continuous stream of courses and who apply by the deadline.  All other exceptions will be considered thereafter.      

 

SCHOOL SCHEDULE:

Registration for sessions will begin at 08:00 a.m.

Training sessions will begin at 08:30 a.m. and will run until 4:30 p.m.

We have implemented the following changes to hotel reservations for this event.  We have reserved a block of guest rooms.  After you have registered on-line and have received our confirmation of your delegate status, PIPSC staff will reserve a hotel guest room (Classic) for you at the Hilton Lac-Leamy. Once you arrive at the hotel, you will need to leave your credit card number with the hotel to process your room reservation.  This will cover incidentals and any miscellaneous room charges which are the responsibility of each guest.  The Institute will pay for the guest room (Classic) and taxes (only) on the master account; however all other charges will be the responsibility of the delegate.  The room rate is based on single or double occupancy. Any upgrades will require prior approval by the Chief Steward. 

Check in time is 16:00 and check out time is 12:00.  While every effort will be made for guests to have access to their rooms when they arrive, this may not be possible and your room may not be available until 16:00.  Late check-out is provided based on availability through authorization from the Front Desk.  PIPSC will not be responsible for additional costs for late check-outs.

Once you have been approved for training, you may be permitted to stay at the hotel for the following days:

  • 1 day of training only (not permitted to stay at hotel)
  • 2 days (the first day of your training you are permitted to stay the first night only)
  • 3 days of training (the first and second day of your training you are permitted to stay Thursday and Friday – you must check out on the Saturday).

CANCELLATIONS

In the event of a requirement to cancel, you MUST INFORM PIPSC Staff of your change of plans.  If you need to cancel or make any changes to your reservation, please contact the hotel directly at (819) 790-6444. You are now responsible to make your own cancellations. If you do not, then you may be billed for the hotel costs directly.

MEALS

Meals may contain beef or chicken or pasta. Should you not be able to eat these foods, please select a vegetarian meal on your registration form.  Also make sure to indicate any food allergies or dietary restrictions on your registration form. Although we will advise the hotel of your request, you will need to advise your server during meals.

Breakfast on Thursday, February 27, 2020 WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.

Lunch on Thursday, February 27, 2020 will be provided for Steward trainees only, NO SUPPER PROVIDED.

Reception on Thursday evening, February 27, 2020 will be provided for Steward trainees and one guest only.

Breakfast on Friday, February 28, 2020 WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.

Lunch on Friday, February 28, 2020 will be provided for Steward trainees only, NO SUPPER PROVIDED.

Breakfast on Saturday, February 29, 2020 WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.

Lunch on Saturday, February 29, 2020 will be provided for the steward trainees only.

No other meals are provided. Regular travel policy provisions will apply. See travel policy.

Travel Claim form

PIPSC’s travel policy does not provide for meals for children under the supervision of a caregiver on site. Hotel policy does not permit transport of food outside of the room where meals are provided. Note that you may not remove food from the lunches or breaks, this food is provided for stewards, executive and staff only.

CHILD CARE

Child Care service can be obtained from the hotel. Please call the Concierge of the hotel directly (819-790-6444).

Please refer to the Family Care Policy - for additional information regarding reimbursement of fees, claims and receipts.

You are responsible for your children’s meals and cannot claim these expenses from the Institute.

PARKING

While on the hotel premises, parking is free of charge, however valet parking is at your own expense.

COMPENSATION FOR LEAVE

Institute policy allows for compensating participants who use vacation leave, compensatory leave, personal day, volunteer day, or any leave other than ‘compressed day off’ for attendance at a Training event. Compensation is also allowed when such leave is required to travel to the Training School. The participant must complete an Institute Compensatory Salary Claim form and attach a copy of a completed Employer’s leave form which indicates that the leave has been approved.

Salary compensation will be limited to the required hours on Thursday and Friday, plus reasonable travel time.

Reasonable travel time is defined as the amount of time that it takes to get from your home or office to the meeting location by the most direct route with no stops, with the intent on arrival at the School at 08:00 a.m.
