On this International Women's Day, the NCR Region proudly celebrates the strength, leadership, and resilience of women across our labour movement.
From the earliest days of collective organizing to today’s complex and evolving workplaces, women have been at the forefront of advancing fairness, equity, and dignity at work. They have challenged discrimination, broken barriers in male-dominated sectors, and reshaped union spaces to be more inclusive, representative, and just.
The advancement of women in the labour movement is not simply about increasing numbers at the table — it is about transforming that table. Women leaders have strengthened bargaining priorities by elevating issues such as pay equity, parental leave, workplace harassment protections, flexible work arrangements, and mental health supports. These gains benefit not only women, but entire memberships and future generations of workers.
In the NCR Region, we recognize the extraordinary contributions of women stewards, executives, activists, and members who show up every day to defend rights, mentor emerging leaders, and hold systems accountable. Their advocacy continues to create space for diverse voices — including Indigenous women, Black women, women of colour, women with disabilities, and LGBTQ2+ women — ensuring that our movement reflects the communities we serve.
As we observe International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to:
- Advancing women into leadership at every level of our union
- Eliminating systemic barriers within our workplaces and our own structures
- Supporting mentorship and succession planning for the next generation
- Standing in solidarity with women globally who continue to fight for equity and justice
Progress has been hard won — and there is still important work ahead. Today we celebrate achievements, honour those who paved the way, and recommit ourselves to building a stronger, more inclusive labour movement.
When women rise, our unions rise. When unions rise, workers thrive.
In solidarity,
NCR Region
