76th Atlantic Regional Council - Kentville Branch Report

May 24 - 25, 2019

The Kentville Branch has not been able to set up an AGM the past year due to a number of reasons. The main problem is I have been away mostly in NB since June last year on relief duties. I am presently in NB until April 18, 2019.The other executive members had similar issues. Nevertheless I am encouraged by the efforts of the RE Subgroup’s efforts below to file as our report. I will certainly endeavour an AGM and election of a new executive for Kentville in the not too distant future as I could spend more time back in NS. Hopefully some of the new executive members below will come on board.

“The RE subgroup held its AGM on Feb 19th in the conference room at the Kao restaurant in New Minas, NS. Paul Hartigan, the invited guest speaker at the meeting, lead a discussion on many of the current issues impacting our members (e.g. Phoenix, cumulative sick leave, career progression/performance assessments, workplace wellness, conflict resolution, etc.).

A new executive committee was elected and is as follows:

  • Timothy Ells - President,
  • Charles Forney - Secretary/Treasurer
  • Jun Song - Member-at-Large
  • Debra Moreau - OSH Committee Representative

Recent activities: For many years now the Kentville RE sub-group have supported the Annapolis Valley Science Fair (AVSF) making an annual donation of $200 to be used for student awards at the conclusion of these events. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to contribute last year. However, I am happy to report that this traditional donation has been reinstated as we have made this commitment to the AVSF committee to help promote science among our youth. "
