On behalf of the Victoria Branch Executive, I would like to present this report to the Regional Council delegates and fellow members.
The Victoria Branch continues to hold our annual summer BBQ event with members from across the Greater Victoria area. This year we are holding the barbeque on June 13th and promises to again have great food and great conversation.
This last year we had a bowling event in December and made this a family event, which allowed for members to both seek out union information from each other and the executive, as well as, having their family around to learn more about PIPSC and have fun bowling at the same time!
We continue to actively seek out and recruit members and in spring 2018 held a steward appreciation evening and asked for each steward to bring a member that has interest in the union, to further connect and with the hopes that the member might consider becoming a steward!
Our Annual General Meeting was held on October 13th and was well attended by varying groups and retired members. Our election saw the addition of 5 new members to the executive, which only adds to the ideas and work the branch is hoping to continue going forward.
This past year we were able to put our new logo on a lunch or snack container and provided these to members who attended the Branch AGM. This was well received and the logo brings about conversation when the container is taken to work and other members see it and ask where it is from.
With this being a federal government election year and the various federal political parties, along with other unions, having public booths at the Saanichton Fair on the Labour Day weekend, the Victoria Branch is hoping to take part this year, as well! Should bring about interesting and great conversation between the public, unions and local federal political candidates.
The executive is hoping to hold a ‘Movie Morning’ for the Greater Victoria members again this year, in or around December, as the one held in 2017 was a great success.
Thank you.
In Solidarity,
Adele McLean, PIPSC Victoria Branch President
