Areas of Concern for Branch Members

  • Staffing remains a primary concern as positions are remaining vacant after retirement and the funds “harvested”.  This seems to be more prevalent with senior positions which is resulting in a lack of promotional opportunities in this area of NS.
  • Contracting out is also a concern as civilian public service jobs remain unstaffed as work is farmed out to contractors.
  • Branch members have expressed concern over union time and resources being diverted towards the “Professionals Canada” initiative. Members are not in favour of this initiative as there are already other options for the persons this initiative proposes to serve and staff resources are already stretched thin in PIPSC. Now is the time to focus on our core mandate and service to our members. If the intention is to grow membership, it should be done by recruiting existing unrepresented workers in the public sectors.
