2025 Canmet ENERGY – Ottawa (BCC) Volleyball Tournament

On Friday, June 27, the fourth annual CanmetENERGY‑Ottawa BCC Volleyball Tournament took place, bringing together staff from the Bells Corners Research Complex (BCC) and the 580 Booth Street Complex for a day of friendly competition and socializing.

In addition to volleyball, yard games were available for participants and spectators alike. A BBQ lunch, generously provided by PIPSC’s NRCan Branch, PIPSC’s NR Sub‑Group NCR, and PSAC, offered a welcome break and a chance to recharge.

On September 26, 2025, NRCan employees gathered for the informal relaunch of the BCC NRCan Charity Golf Tournament. With a modest goal of bringing colleagues together for a fun day of golf, the event exceeded expectations with 11 teams enjoying a sunny day and a shotgun start.

We extend our sincere thanks to PIPSC NRCan Branch, NR sub-group, NRCAN, and PSAC for their generous support, Irish Hills Golf and Country Club for hosting the event and donating two 18‑hole prizes, as well as all the golfers and volunteers who made the day a success.

Finally, we would be remiss if we did not recognize and celebrate the winners of the day, whose achievements added to the excitement and enjoyment of the tournament.

The first luncheon was held on January 16 at the Booth Street Complex and welcomed over 60 members. Attendees enjoyed a warm, collegial atmosphere, a shared meal, and meaningful conversations with colleagues from various teams. Opening remarks were delivered by Stéphane Audet, President of the PIPSC NRCan Branch, and David Young, President of the NR Sub-group. Union representatives and stewards were available to provide updates and answer questions, and door prize draws added to the positive experience.

December 6th: A Day of Remembrance and Action

Candles on TableTo commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women and to honour the victims of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, the NRCan NR Sub-group and the PIPSC NRCan Branch members gathered at the 580 Booth Street library on Friday, December 5.

A solemn ceremony was held, featuring a touching speech as well as laying of a wreath and white candles. A moment of silence was observed to reflect on the lives lost and the ongoing struggle against gender-based violence.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteers, the event was conducted with dignity and respect. By commemorating this day, we reaffirm our commitment to ending violence against women and creating a safer future for all.
