Your SP Group Bargaining Team met twice with the employer at the end of June and beginning of July. A great deal of progress has been made, however there is still work left that needs to be done.

Over 7 days (June 20th-22nd and July 4th-7th) your SP Group Bargaining Team met with the employer to continue negotiations on our collective agreement. We were hoping to achieve a deal on our July dates and our team rescheduled travel and changed other plans to stay an extra day on July 7th, however, we were unfortunately unable to reach a tentative agreement. The employer has yet to table an offer reflective of the pattern that we’ve seen established at other bargaining tables, but both sides are committed to further negotiation.

This bargaining round is nearing its conclusion, but there remain several outstanding items that require further movement. The bargaining surveys indicated that these items are critical to our members. As I mentioned last time, we are still having issues with getting the data that we need from the employer so that we can properly analyze and address these issues. We have filed a bad faith bargaining complaint as a result.

We’ve added additional bargaining dates during the third week of September. While we’ve been negotiating for nearly a year, it took nearly two years and a strike before other bargaining units achieved a result. In the event that we are unable to reach an agreement at the bargaining table, the outstanding items would be resolved through binding arbitration.
