The Canadian Food Inspection Agency – Scientific and Analytical (CFIA-S&A) Group executive is seeking nominations for the following positions :

●    Member-at-Large, National Capital Region – 3-year term

●    Member-at-Large, National Capitol Region – 3-year term

The nomination and election process are governed by our Group bylaws under Articles 7.2.1 to 7.3.6.

Here is a summary of the process:

●      Nominations must be supported by at least 5 regular CFIA-S&A members

●      The Elections Committee will review the nominations to make sure nominees are eligible

●      If necessary, the Elections Committee will hold a vote

●      Nominees must review and to respect the CFIA-S&A’s Elections Code of Conduct

As a member of the group executive, your role is to:

●      further the professional interests of the members

●      protect the status and standards of our profession

●      represent the views of the members on matters affecting them

●      ensure that the interests of the Group are represented in all proceedings of the employer and of the union and

●      elected executive committee members may be selected as members of the bargaining team

Candidates are encouraged to have significant previous union experience and a good working knowledge of the CFIA-S&A Collective Agreement and PIPSC.

Elected officials will be required to:

  • assume Officer portfolios
  • attend Sub-group Annual General Meetings (AGM) in their region
  • attend the CFIA-S&A Group and PIPSC AGMs, and the Sub-Group President’s Meeting and
  • meet approximately every 2 months (or 4 times a year), in person or via Zoom. Meetings may take place on weekdays, weekends, and evenings. 

These are volunteer positions that require a commitment to performing duties both during and outside of normal public service work hours.
