Lunch will be provided to PIPSC members. Please wear your orange PIPSC sweatshirt. We will have a limited number of orange sweatshirts and t-shirts available at the event for those who do not already have one.

We will start our remembrance with an Indigenous prayer and smudging. Then we will walk to Parliament Hill to watch the speakers from the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR), broadcast live by the APTN.

Please note that mileage, parking, and other claims can’t be made for this event. We will also be sitting on the lawn at Parliament Hill for this event, so please plan accordingly if you need a blanket or lawn chair.

The NCTR website has more information on the event, including a live broadcast on September 30, 2025.

We also encourage you to explore the important lunch and learn sessions, which NCTR will offer daily from September 22 to 26, 2025.

Sessions are free, aimed at an adult audience, and hosted virtually over Zoom and streamed to YouTube. Expert speakers will present for 40 to 50 minutes before a Q&A between the moderator and guest(s). All sessions will have simultaneous English-French and ASL interpretation.

If you have questions, please email Richard Gaboton at rgaboton@pipsc.ca

We look forward to seeing you on September 30.

Supporting Gender Transition at Work: An Updated Guide for PIPSC Members and Managers was developed to promote gender-inclusion across the Canadian public service. Created in collaboration with union leaders and PIPSC subject matter experts, the guide offers practical resources, tools, and best practices for building workplaces where queer, trans and Two-Spirit workers feel safe and welcome.

READ THE GUIDE

This week, we watched fires and floods force people from their homes. At the same time, governments pushed forward laws to fast-track pipelines, mines, and ports. They call this the national interest. We ask what kind of interest ignores the land, the people, and the voices of Indigenous Nations.

Canada is in a climate crisis. Projects that harm the land continue without real consultation. Bills like C-5 and Bill 5 were created without including Indigenous Peoples. These laws ignore treaty rights and break Canada’s promise to follow the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

We support the First Nations who are standing up in court. Alderville, Apitipi Anicinapek, Aroland, Attawapiskat, Fort Albany, Ginoogaming, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Wabauskang are protecting the land and their rights.

We are Indigenous public servants. We know what happens when governments make decisions without listening. It causes harm. It creates mistrust. It does not reflect reconciliation.

We call on all governments to stop and listen. Indigenous Peoples must be part of decisions from the start. Respect for the land must guide every step forward.

Are you passionate about promoting equity and addressing the challenges equity-deserving groups face within the public service? Here’s your chance to make a meaningful impact!

PIPSC is currently seeking volunteer members for a 1-year term in our 6 equity caucuses:

  • Black Caucus
  • Indigenous Caucus
  • 2SLGBTQIA+ Caucus
  • Workers of Colour Caucus
  • People with Disabilities Caucus
  • Women’s Caucus

These caucuses are vital in advocating improved access, inclusion, and accommodations for equity-deserving groups. They report to the PIPSC Human Rights and Diversity Committee (HRDC) and are instrumental in combating discrimination and injustice in the union and the workplace.

By joining an equity caucus, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • address specific issues impacting your equity-deserving group
  • develop strategic plans for your caucus
  • provide actionable recommendations to the HRDC

Caucus members must attend four one-hour meetings annually and contribute to various campaigns as needed. You are welcome to join any caucus you identify with.

If you have any questions, please contact the PIPSC Human Rights and Diversity Committee.
