Advisory Council
Hello I am Chris Roach Advisory Council Director on the PIPSC Board of Directors, and I wanted to share with you a little about your Advisory Council
The Advisory Council, which is made up of the representatives from each Bargaining Group and National Consultation Team, is charged with the responsibility of dealing with matters referred to it by the Board, the Executive Committee, Group Executives, Consultation Teams or a general meeting of the Institute. It shall serve as a forum for an exchange of ideas and information among Groups and Consultation Teams. Some of the prime functions shall be information sharing on collective bargaining issues, professional concerns, national consultation and policies under consideration. In addition, the Advisory Council shall review PIPSC Annual Priorities and make recommendations to the Board of Directors prior to the second Board of Directors meeting of the calendar year.
Main activities for the Advisory Council this 2019 are:
- Providing input to the Board on the Institutes 3-year Strategic Plan
- Working with the Board on a task force examining Professionals Canada. The Board was tasked by the AGM with re-examining this issue and consulting with the Advisory Council and affected groups. The Advisory Council members are participating on a task force with members of the Board of Directors and will be contributing to a report for the 2019 AGM. The consultation has already begun, and I look forward to hearing the report at the 2019 AGM.
- Working in conjunction with the Training and Education Committee to look at various aspects of Stewardship in the Institute.
As you can see the Advisory Council has a busy agenda and lots to consider given that it only meets four times a year. Although its membership fluctuates around 70, its mandate ensures it touches every member of the institute.
If you have any questions or concerns in regard to the Advisory Council, please feel free to reach out.
In Solidarity,
Chris Roach
Advisory Council Director
