Report on OSB Activities   May 2018 to April 2019

The Ottawa South Branch has selected educational seminars and workshops to appeal to a wide spectrum of members.  We have also organized social activities to encourage member participation. 

Since being informed on the impact of Bill C-27, OSB Executive has been focusing resources and attending many events to provide distribution of information to PIPSC members and all Canadians so that they may understand the impact of this proposed legislation and the reason that the CLC and unions like PIPSC are opposed to  Bill C-27.  A special thank you from OSB to NCR Director and Chair Greg Scriver without whose help, we could not have provided many of our Opposition to Bill     C-27 and Better Together information sessions. 

May 13, 2019 – Information session on the new Public Service wellness and healthcare and dental plan for government workers presented by PIPSC Benefits.

April 15, 2019 – Seminar on Teenage Depression and mental health issues.

February 20, 2018 – Team-building: Laser Tag – with distribution of PIPSC promotional items.

Feb 17, 2019 – Three OSB Executive volunteers - Chris, Rob and Madeline volunteered at the CTC NCR Skating event at the Canadian Tire Centre.

November 14, 2018 - Information Session on Pension Bill C-27 by NCR Director Greg Scriver which was followed by Fantastic Beasts Crimes of Grindelwald movie.

September 29 2018 – OSB Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the RA Centre.  Many thanks to Chair – VP Steve Hindle and guest speakers  Allaudin Alibhai who provided updates on Public Service Wellness program;  and NCR Director and Chair Greg Scriver  with updates on Pensions and Bill C-27 and NCR activities.  Included the distribution of PIPSC promotional items.

Sept 3, 2018 – Chris and Madeline again marched in the Labour Day Parade along with decorating the PIPSC bus and volunteered at the PIPSC booth in McNabb Park and dispensed tickets for children’s face-painting, PIPSC brochures and water bottles. 

August 19, 2018 - Imagine Rainbow theatre family movie event Teen Titans with 184 attendees and we held a food bank donation.

June 5, 2018 – Rally for Nuclear Workers’ Pensions - Treasury Board – we participated and marched with PIPSC banners.

June 1 2018 – Dooly’s Pool Billiards Social event.   Along with Ottawa West we had a well attended social event on a Friday evening.

May 23 & May 30 2018 –  Two seminars at PIPSC HQ– Golden Years Financial Planning – to aid our senior parents on retirement finances.  This was so popular that we had added the second seminar.

May 6 2018 – attended the OCPS Pension training session – to educate on the types of pensions, history of pensions.  We are working to develop a strategy for advocating for good pensions for all Canadians and ttended several OCPS pension planning meetings.
