74th BC/Yukon-RC - Okanagan Branch Report

Branch Activities:

1)    Okanagan Branch 2017 AGM was held on Sept 27, 2017 in Summerland, B.C.:

a)    Guest Speakers were Debi Daviau, PIPSC President, and Robert Macdonald, PIPSC Director, BC/Yukon Region. Topics covered included ongoing collective bargaining for different groups, sick leave status, phoenix, unions in general, training and government relationship.

b)    Elections were held with Philip Mantler acclaimed as Vice-President, Witold Wince and Zoran Ljusic both acclaimed as Members-at-Large.
c)    In Sep 2017, two branch executives undertook a first outreach meeting at White Lake and met with 18 members close to their work place. Next plan is an outreach meeting in Kamloops.

2)    Okanagan Branch 2018 AGM date is scheduled for Wednesday, September 26, 2018.  Planning to be scheduled in the spring of 2018 to finalize details.

3)    The Okanagan Branch Executive held their first year 2018 meeting on Thursday, March 01, 2018. Areas discussed included:

a)    Review & approvals of the 2017 Financials.  

b)    Planning for the 2018 Okanagan Branch AGM: It was agreed that Wednesday, September 26, 2018, would be the date for this year’s AGM. The Sumac Ridge Golf Course restaurant in Summerland was considered as a possible venue for this year due to the very positive feedback we received on the venue in both 2016 & 2017, however, other venues are being considered and will be finalized at the next planning meeting.

c)    The Branch Executive decided that the delegates representing the Okanagan Branch at the British Columbia/Yukon Regional Council in June 2018 will be José Jimenez, Gail Swintak, and Zoran Ljusic, with Witold Wince as the alternate. Philip Mantler and Ken Antao will also be attending as they both are members of the BC/Yukon Regional Executive.

d)    The branch now has a Visibility bag for outreach and rally purposes that was provided by the BC/Yukon Regional Executive. Thanks.

4)    Our second Branch Executive Meeting is scheduled for May 03, 2018.
