2019 AFS AGM - 2019 AFS CS National Consultation Representative Report
As your CS National Consultation Representative, it is my job to be the voice of all AFS CS members through consultation, bargaining and representation. I am pleased to provide you my annual report on what I have accomplished on your behalf this past year.
- Once again, I am back at the bargaining table to negotiate a fair wage increase for our CS community through collective bargaining. I will continue to fight to achieve a similar deal to the one I fought for in the last round of bargaining. Our current Collective Agreement is one of the best deals reached among the core Public Service.
- This past year I met with the AC and CIO Annette Butikofer many times to address concerns that have been brought to me with very good results. We have agreed to work together on more HR initiatives such as reducing harassment in the work place.
- Over this past year, I have worked hard to help many of our members to resolve serious Phoenix pay issues. For most problems, I was able to get the issue resolved within one pay period. Where members were without pay, I was able to get emergency pay implemented within a few days. I will continue to address all of our members Phoenix issues as they arise.
- I have spent the last year working as part of the Classification Committee reviewing all of our AFS job classifications. I went so far as to take CRA’s on line introductory classification course in order to be better understand CRA’s classification system and prepare myself for the meetings we have had with some of the occupational groups. The CS classification was written in the 1970’s and is need of modernization as it does not include elements outlined in the Canadian Human Rights Act.
- This past year I have spent a lot of time on staffing issues. I have been working with ITB to try and improve the staffing process experience for all CS’s. I have heard many of the complaints from across all of our regions and I know a One-Size-Fits-All approach to staffing does not work for our CS’s. I am going to continue to push for more staffing options and more opportunities for promotion in all regions.
It is a pleasure representing you as the CS National Consultation Rep. It is a job I am passionate about and will continue to dedicate myself to. I enjoy working for you and with you to make ITB one of the best IT organizations to work in.
