Montréal-Ouest Branch Annual Report for the 2019 Regional Council

Dear colleagues:

It is my pleasure to present the 6th report of the Montréal-Ouest Branch, for the year 2018.

New blood at ECCC

Our Branch is pleased to welcome two new stewards: Samuel Gilbert, a CS at ECCC, and Joël Bédard, a SE-RES also at ECCC. Welcome to both of you!

Relocation of the CMC

The hottest topic of the year was undoubtedly the relocation of the Canadian Meteorological Centre from its current location to 700 Leigh-Capreol Place. This uncoordinated project involved all Stewards and a large part of the membership.

Apple-Picking

In September, Branch members were invited to an apple-picking activity. In the rural setting of Oka more than 40 people came to pick and taste the variety of apples at the Saab orchard. They also had the opportunity to ask questions to the Stewards. The subject of the day: the national elections (and also which is the best variety for an apple pie recipe)!

What does 2019 hold in store for us?

Earlier this year we got the CMC’s relocation project repealed, thanks to the sustained efforts by the Stewards and an active group of members! This is a great achievement and we all came out winners. The CMC will still move, but within a 5-7-year timeframe. A more logical path will be taken: scientific collaboration rather than savings per square foot. This will certainly be something to watch during the year.

In Solidarity,

Hugo Landry

President, Montréal-Ouest Branch
