On behalf of the Victoria Branch Executive, I would like to present this report to the Regional Executive and fellow council members. The report outlines and shares of the past and coming year events and the continued work the Victoria branch executive is doing.
Since the 2017 Regional Council, the Victoria Branch held our second annual barbeque in June 2017, which was well attended including guest speaker, Rob MacDonald. The event provided updates on regional and national PIPSC events and bargaining news at the time.
The Victoria Branch Annual General Meeting was held on October 14, 2017. Branch members were provided information on a survey the branch took at the June barbeque and elections took place. The position of treasurer and Members at Large were filled and this increased the executive from 7 to 11. An announcement of a branch logo contest was announced at the AGM, as well. The winner of the contest was member, Rob Grigor, and his design work which included an Orca whale has become our new logo for the Victoria Branch. With Rob Grigor’s blessings, a slight modification to the design was done to please PIPSC National.
On December 16, 2017, a very successful event, together with the Victoria CRA Branch, was held. The members of the two branches were treated to Star Wars, The Last Jedi movie. Although an early start in the morning to have popcorn and pop, all appeared to enjoy the movie and some were lucky enough to win 1 of 3 gift baskets provided. Visibility packages with information about PIPSC, calendar, sponsor literature was handed out to attendees, as well. An update on PIPSC activities was provided.
The Victoria Branch started off 2018 holding a strategy meeting where we discussed various events that members would feel engaged and motivated in attending. One of the events to both honour and encourage participation of members, was to hold a Steward Appreciation evening in May. This was to show appreciation to current Stewards in the branch membership and to invite those members that show interest in becoming Stewards. Each Steward was asked to bring one PIPSC member who has shown interest in becoming a Steward. We intend on continuing to have the annual barbeque and of course the required AGM this year, and hopefully the movie event again. As well, we are planning a family bowling event and taking part in a community event to benefit the Greater Victoria area.
Thank you.
In Solidarity, on behalf of the Victoria Branch Executive,
Adele McLean, PIPSC Victoria Branch President
