Federal Budget Cuts and Workforce Adjustment: Morgan Cranny discussed the union’s opposition to proposed federal service cuts, explained the workforce adjustment process, and highlighted available resources and options for affected members.

Bargaining Process and Delays: Morgan and Robert described the bargaining timeline, legislative constraints, and typical delays caused by employer practices, emphasizing the importance of member participation in bargaining surveys and the potential need for strike action.

Steward Recruitment and Role: Morgan encouraged members to consider becoming stewards, outlining the benefits, training opportunities, and the role stewards play in supporting colleagues and strengthening the union’s position.

Bargaining Team Selection: Robert Scott explained the process for selecting bargaining team members, which involves balancing executive participation, activist involvement, and representation across disciplines, departments, and regions.

 

Benefits Negotiation: Questions about benefits were addressed, clarifying that benefit changes are negotiated at the National Joint Council and are subject to a consultative process with limited leverage compared to collective bargaining.
