The 50 Victoria St. SP Sub-Group 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Tuesday, December 5th, 2023. The event took place from 12:00 pm. to 1:00 p.m. virtually via MS Teams.

4.     Business arising from the Minutes of 2022

None.

5.     Report of the President

Marcel Beaudoin presented a very short report on:

·       Review of the 2023: very brief report on bargaining process and ratification of the tentative agreement. More detail will be presented by Bryan later in the meeting.

·       Plan on having monthly in person drop-in sessions in 1310B (coffee & Timbits) during lunch time with Marcel in 2024.

·        Plan on having activities like skating on the canal in 2024 for the 50 Victoria St. subgroup members.

 

6.     Annual financial report

2023-2024 budget presented by Mary Murphy:

·       Only expenditure in 2023 was donation of $2000 to food banks ($1000 to one in Ottawa and $1000 to one in Gatineau). Plan to do the same for 2024 if still approved by PIPSC.

·       For activities like skating on the canal in 2024 and sending possible observers to meetings, the amount budgeted is $8650. Forecast closing balance of $1100 at end of 2024.

·       Membership has increased in 2023 as new Patent Examiners were hired, so yearly allowance from PIPSC has increased slightly.

7.     Elections

Current executive composition:        

·       President – Marcel Beaudoin, elected in 2022,

·       Vice-president – Jay Fothergill, elected in 2022, up for election

·       Treasurer – Mary Murphy, elected in 2022,

·       Secretary – Reginald Linco, elected in 2022, up for election

·       Member-at-large – Céline Fletcher, elected in 2022,

·       Member-at-large – Mazen Hijazi, elected in 2022,

·       Member-at-large – Akid Azfar, appointed 2022,

·       Member-at-large – Adam Cloutier, appointed 2022, up for election

·       2 more Members-at-large up for election

 

To ensure continuity with level of experience of the sub-group executive members, the following positions will now have 2-year terms (VP, Secretary and 3 Members at Large). The following positions still have 1-year term left: President, treasurer and 3 Members at Large.

o   Reginald Linco – acclaimed (2 yr. term)

 

·       Member-at-large

o   Adam Cloutier - acclaimed (2 yr. term)

o   Maria Salazar – acclaimed (1 yr. term)

 

8.     Bargaining Update

Guest speaker: Bryan Van Wilgenburg, current SP Group president (…and many other positions within PIPSC)

·       Bryan gave a brief presentation on how the bargaining process works and why members need to stay engaged in the union and bargaining.

·       The tentative agreement has been ratified by the SP group members. Now waiting for Treasury Board to meet and sign off on tentative agreement (should be mid-December).

·       Preparation for the next round of bargaining has already begun due to the upcoming political changes on the horizon.

·       Bryan then held a Q&A.
