In the spring of 2024, PIPSC notified their members that the employer was applying for an extension to complete the pay equity process. PIPSC had the opportunity to respond to the Pay Equity Commission on whether they supported the application or not. In our submission to the commission, we included that we understood that the process must take place to close any wage gaps for female dominated jobs.
The extension request was approved by the Pay Equity Commission for an additional eighteen months. This extension doesn’t negate the employer’s responsibility for payments and interest to employees in positions that are determined to be female dominated jobs with a wage gap. We have created subcommittees to work more effectively and have given the rating of the job descriptions and Job Information Questionnaires to the consultant, Mercer. The rating subcommittee created the parameters for Mercer to follow and this committee will verify the consultant’s work.
