The Employer at CFIA has submitted a request for an extension of 18 months to complete the pay equity plan. The original draft plan was supposed to be posted for review and comments by July 03, 2024 but the employer failed to meet this deadline.

The Commission dictates that any employer that requests an extension, must notify the employees. This was sent out on Merlin and an InfoBulletin. PIPSC is copied on the submission for the request and invited to respond. We will highlight if the employer was negligent or not in taking all necessary measures to ensure the committee was prepared with essential information, they started the process on time, and used the committee time efficiently.

Regardless if the employer is granted an extension, the fact remains that any employees in a  female dominated job class that has been determined as having a wage gap, will still be compensated with a lump sum amount including interest, retroactive to the original date of September 04, 2024.
