Rin MacDonald

Like many Canadians, my journey has been shaped by hard work, resilience, and the pursuit of opportunity. I immigrated to Toronto at a young age, where I learned the values that continue to guide me—perseverance, integrity, and self-reliance. Canada has always been a place where people from all walks of life come together to build something greater through hard work and fairness, not favoritism or bureaucracy.

Two years ago, I moved to Ottawa permanently, gaining a deeper appreciation for strong, connected communities and the importance of accountability in leadership. My spouse, who is of mixed Chinese and European descent, has given me a greater appreciation for different perspectives. My brother serves in the Canadian Armed Forces, which has instilled in me a profound respect for service, discipline, and the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms. His experiences remind me every day that true leadership is about putting others first—not politics, not popularity, just results.

I did not get here because of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives—I am here because of hard work, perseverance, and an unshakable commitment to getting things done. I have lived with a learning disability my entire life, which has made certain challenges more difficult. But instead of making excuses, I pushed through. With determination and no shortcuts, I graduated from the Schulich School of Business, one of Canada’s top business schools. From there, I built a successful career in the banking and technology sectors, two industries that demand results, accountability, and a no-nonsense approach to problem-solving.

With my business background, I have developed a strong ability to cut through bureaucracy and call out inefficiencies. I don’t believe in empty promises—I believe in results. When it comes to advocacy, actions matter—not words, not virtue-signaling, and certainly not political games. Whether it’s fighting for fair compensation, securing better working conditions, or demanding full transparency, I will always prioritize what actually improves the lives of our members.

Leadership is often mistaken for a polished speech or a fancy title. But I believe true leaders are servants—they work for the people, not the other way around. They stand up for fairness, push back against bad policies, and never back down from a fight.
I understand the pressures hardworking federal employees face—meeting deadlines, dealing with workplace politics, navigating ever-changing policies, and balancing personal responsibilities. We all want the same things:

CheckmarkA workplace that rewards hard work, not connections or favoritism

CheckmarkOpportunities to build a strong, stable future

CheckmarkA union that actually fights for its members—not for the insiders at the top

That is why I am committed to serving.

If given the opportunity, I will work to strengthen our union by ensuring accountability, transparency, and real advocacy that delivers results. I will fight for:

  •  Fair compensation without endless delays
  •  Stronger work-life balance without sacrificing productivity
  •  A union that stands up for its members, not itself
