75th PRC - Lacombe/Red Deer Branch Report
The PIPSC Lacombe/Red Deer Branch was resurrected after 10 years of inactivity in the fall of 2010.
Dr. Dave Cartledge (DVM), who was active in the PIPSC Edmonton Branch, contacted our PIPSC Winnipeg office to find all the 6 PIPSC stewards in the Lacombe/Red Deer when he transferred to his current CFIA position in Red Deer. These 6 stewards were very helpful to resurrect the Branch:).
No previous bank account was found in Lacombe, where the last story of activity was suggested. Thus, we managed to get some funds from PIPSC in Ottawa after establishing an executive. We had 101 members then, and it has slowly reduced to about 86?
We had to ask Vegreville to be removed from our list of towns/cities listed on our list of executive and area.
Our Branch covers a large area in central Alberta extending North to South from about the town of Hobbema in the North to Didsbury in the South, and West to Rock Mountain House, and East to the town of Stettler. The branch has about 86 PIPSC members.
Regular Executive and member meetings are held every three months, alternating between Red Deer and Innisfail in order to accommodate member travel that live in the North or South areas of the branch's area respectively.
The AGM has been held at the Discovery Wildlife Park in Innisfail since 2016 which also gives members families a chance to take part in PIPSC activities as well. The Branch has also participated in helping out at the Food Bank in Red Deer, to promote community involvement and awareness of the PIPSC members, and has supported Kids at Christmas for families in need at this festive time of the year. The largest contingency of members is located at the Bowden Institution between the towns of Innisfail and Bowden, with the second largest contingency in Red Deer, and the third largest contingency in Lacombe. A few members are in Rocky Mountain House area, and Hobbema area.
The incoming executive for 2018/2019 is:
President - Vince Mulhall
Vice President - Daina Demchuk
Secretary /Treasurer - Dave Cartledge
