1)Call to Order

•Chris called the meeting to order at 5:16 p.m.

2)Approval of Agenda

3)Minutes of last meetings, March 19, 2018

  • Moved by Jason, seconded by Jay, motion carried

4)President’s Report

  • Chris reported 2 new steward (candidates) in the branch. Linda (AV) and Shannon Moody. Executive noted the elimination of one steward from the ranks due to reassignment to a non- union position (Sid Jones) and would like to offer congratulations and thank him for his service.
  • Chris attended the Broadbent Progress Summit in Edmonton. Purpose was to excite and rally folks to get involved in the upcoming provincial election in AB.

FYI – if PIPSC funds attendance at a seminar/conference/etc a report is required to be submitted.

  • PRE
    • Debi D is going to attend the PRC later this week in Edmonton.
    • Working on Steward Council plans for Fall 2018 in Winnipeg. Looking for activities for Friday Night.
    • Changing format for Steward awards this year… more news to follow.
    • BOD elections are Fall 2018 – Check website for candidates and details
    • PR plan on having a raffle for Legacy Fund again this year at AGM
  • Bylaws and Policy Committee meetings
  • FYI – if sending amendments for policy or bylaws of group, subgroup, etc ensure it is consistent with model bylaws or group bylaws. If it does not follow the model, justification as to why is needed.
  • Labour School – well attended with 2 streams for training:
    • Occupational Health & Safety
    • Performance Management
  • New subgroup is forming in rural Western MB (Brandon and area), SP subgroup
  • Chris attended the AV Winnipeg Subgroup AGM

5) Treasurer’s Report

  • •Jason gave us an update on Branch finances, having previously circulated the income and cash flow statements.
  • Jason to contact PIPSC as it appears Glen attended AGM last year as AFS delegate, but was charged back to the Branch as observer. Also Cory`s salary was charged to Branch where it was claimed under UFLB policy.
  • Jason to bring the signature card for Executive signatures.
  • Currently have $XXX in account.

6) New Business

  • PIPSC AGM o WSMB has 3 delegate positions, and has previously sent 2 observers.
    • Motion: Chris moved that branch president gets one of the delegate spots. 2nd by Jay. Carried.
    • Chris to circulate to the executive an email for folks to indicate interest in attending in the other 2 delegate spots and 2 observer spots. Note those that put their name forth for observer spots are without salary compensation.
  • Hoodies – no timeframe on receipt, as need a minimum order for the PR. Details pending when available.
  • Canopy Package
    • Banner, Table, Canopy, Visibility package for use in or outdoors. PR has indicated would subsidize purchase up to $XXX. Cost for package $XXX.
  • Motion: Donna motions to obtain a canopy package based upon $XXX reimbursement from the Prairie Region. 2nd Linda. Carried.
  • Event Planning:
    • BBQ – June 16 to be rescheduled to June 23 due to conflicts with Father`s Day and other Group/subgroup AGM. Each executive member is able to bring a significant other or partner. The executive’s plus one will be charged $XXX fee to be donated to the Legacy Fund.
    • Open House – Thursday Dec 6, 2018. Donna to contact King’s Head. One drink ticket guaranteed per attendee for minimum numbers to be supplied to the King’s Head. Additional tickets maybe obtained without penalty but if request too many up front, get charged for all we request.
    • Executive Meeting/Holiday Dinner – Saturday Dec 8 (start 5 or 6 pm)Linda to organize.
    • WSMB AGM – Jay, Bryan, Herbert to select venue, menu. Jan 17, 2019
    • Labour Day activity – Herbert to contact Winnipeg Labour Council to see what is happening, how WASMB may be involved.

Standing motion to reimburse Cory for dinner cost - $XXX
Motion: Chris moved for payment of hospitality allocation of $XXX from attending AV AGM. 2nd by Jay. Carried.

7) Other Business:

  •  Round Table

Terry – had AGM, some changes to the executive.
Jay – Broadbent progress summit – wasn’t able to acquire info for the Winnipeg event. National Public Service Week is soon.Friday June 15th hosting a BBQ with PSAC. Jay to circulate invite to executive et al. Yani and Nancy developing funding request from PIPSC national for Winnipeg General Strike memorial.
Herbert – spoke to Nancy and Rob and may have a commitment for some funding for Labour day activities
Jason – CS subgroup had their AGM
Linda – attended AV AGM in PQ

  •  Is nominated as a steward, training pending in the fall
  •  Attended Nix Phoenix training
  •  Members are showing interest in sick leave changes, looking maybe to hold a lunch and learn

Jay – Nix Phoenix – lunch and learn funding available to do presentation, lunch as want real stories of how has affected people.
Herbert – reaching out to groups – coordinators to be invited to executive meetings. Discussion followed regarding the role of the political arm and the corporate arm of the union.
Cory – MAGE AGM is scheduled for June this year. Some inconsistencies with the advertisement for election versus what is in the bylaws.
