Minutes 2022 Kingston Branch Annual General Meeting

Held:  Wednesday December 7, 2022 at the Travelodge Hotel, 5:00 pm

The meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m. with Gary Desbiens – President, Cindy Gagnon – Vice President, Michael Tabbert – Treasurer, Ken Pearce – Communications Officer, Cindi Sangster, Joanne McLaughlin, Dan Guthrie and Jay Timpson - Members at Large.

President Desbiens thanked everyone for attending our first AGM in two and a half years.

Acceptance of the Agenda was moved by Ken Pearce and seconded by Dan Guthrie.

Review of the Previous Minutes:

Acceptance of the Previous Minutes was moved by Joanne McLaughlin and seconded by Cindy Gagnon.

Treasurer’s Report:

The Treasurer’s Report was given by Michael Tabbert explaining the impact of the pandemic, the allocations and the non refundable deposit for the AGM that was cancelled as a result of the pandemic. Given that there was no activity in 2021 the financial position of the Kingston Branch remained stable.

Acceptance of Treasurer’s Report was moved by Viola Connor and seconded by Jay Timpson

President’s Message:

President Desbiens outlined many of the changes and challenges that the union has faced in the last two years such as hybrid model, health and safety, 699 leave, telework agreements, advisory council, National Labour Management Committee and Negotiations. He also indicated that there would be elections for the positions of Vice President, Communications Officer and four Members at Large.

Elections:

Nominations began for the position of Vice President. President Desbiens summarized the duties of the position. Cindy Gagnon indicated that she would like to step down. As no one came forward she was nominated by Cindi Sangster to remain VP, seconded by Jay Timpson, accepted and was elected by acclamation.

The duties of the position of the Treasurer were explained by outgoing Treasurer Michael Tabbert. Mr. Tabbert indicated that he would not be standing for re-election due to his retirement. As a result of a lack of nominations from the floor, a decision to come back to the Treasurer position was taken and nominations moved on to the Communications Officer position. Ken Pearce indicated that he would not be seeking re- election due to retirement. The duties of the position were explained by President Desbiens.  Cindy Sangster was elected Communications Officer by acclamation.

Jay Timpson volunteered for the position of Treasurer and was accepted. He was elected Treasurer by acclamation.

Nominations for four Members at Large were accepted by Dan Guthrie, Sam Bilton, Rob Hammer and Ryan Devlin. All were elected by acclamation.

A discussion regarding union engagement and the greying of the union took place before supper.

Supper: 18:00 hrs

Ken Pearce was presented with a Certificate of Retirement. Mr. Pearce thanked the Branch and the members for the opportunity to be part of the union for the last 25 years and wished the assembly well.

There was a general discussion of union engagement, benefits, membership, and other issues of interest followed by a draw for prizes and the distribution of promotional items.
