The Ottawa East Branch (OEB) is pleased to present a session on “The Informed Consumer’s Guide to Funeral Planning”. It will be presented by: Beverlee McIntosh, MSW. Vice president, Funeral Co-operative of Ottawa.

FUNERAL PLANNING

Funeral costs in Ontario are amongst the highest in North America. People seeking funeral services are often not aware that sales representatives are paid on commission; families may be vulnerable to upselling and a lack of transparency in pricing. A not-for-profit consumer co-operative funeral home in Ottawa operates on a model using community resources and provides a range of options for traditional or simple funerals and memorial services. Our values are grounded in social justice. This presentation will review the essential decisions around funeral planning. ‘Frills’ can be costly additions and as a consumer you need to know what to request or decline when making funeral arrangements that reflects your families preferences and finances.
