Minutes of Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Held on November 27, 2019

Rotary Centre for the Arts (421 Cawston Ave. Kelowna, BC)

Attendance: 18 local members + 2 guest speakers

Subgroup Executive in attendance:

Guests:               Simon Chiu – BC Yukon – AFS Regional Rep, Doug Mason, AFS President

1. Meeting called to Order by Gwil Walters at 5:30 pm / Quorum Obtained
2. Agenda Approval – Motion to approve the Agenda made by Gwil Walters, seconded by Cathy Harrison.  All approved.  Motion passed.
3. 2018 Minutes Approval – Motion to approve the 2018 Minutes made by Dave Aliverti, seconded by Janet Dillon.  All approved.  Motion passed
4. President’s Report – Gwil Walters presented 

Gwil welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming.  He presented a summary of the year’s events for our subgroup:   

• Last December’s visibility event with Santa stockings – messages of support for our bargaining team boldly displayed
• February – PIPSC supported pink shirt anti-bullying day, provided pink shirts for our members
• March – UMC staffing forum
• April - Gwil attended the train the trainer UMA in Vancouver
• May – support our bargaining team event held at CRAFT market
• June – joint union lunch (PIPSC/PSAC) – family leave provisions discussed

5. Treasurer’s Report – Cathy Harrison

• Copies of Financial Statements and Budget provided; Cathy explained how the money has been spent in the year.  We received reimbursement for certain events from Better Together funding as well as  Do Better funding, so we did not spend as much as in prior years. However, at this point we are not in danger of any claw back.
• Motion to approve the 2018 financial statements made by Cathy Harrison, seconded by Dave Aliverti.  All approved.  Motion passed.
• Motion to approve the 2019/2020 Budget made by Cathy Harrison, seconded by Gwil Walters. All approved. Motion passed.

6. Election of Officers – election ran by Doug Mason

• By acclamation –

Vice-President – Dave Aliverti (2 year term)

Treasurer / Secretary – Natalee Guttman (2 year term)

Member at Large – Rob Hubbard (1 year term)

7. Guest Speakers – Doug Mason, AFS President, Simon Chiu, AFS – B.C./Yukon Rep

Doug and Simon spoke on issues affecting members and answered various questions of the members.

Door Prizes were provided to members in attendance.
