Annual General Meeting – Members Only

Monday, January 27, 2020

White Spot, 405 Dunsmuir Street Vancouver, BC

  • Social: 5:00 to 5:30 p.m.;
  • Dinner and Annual General Meeting: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Speakers Presentations 6:30 – 7:30.

Update:  Our guest speakers for the AGM have now been confirmed, and we are excited to announce who will be presenting!  Our feature speaker will be Robert Nissen, an employee at Environment Canada. Robert Nissen graduated from UBC with a B.Sc. in Physical Geography, and did graduate studies at University of Toronto with the cloud physics group. This was followed by a post-doc at King Weather Radar north of Toronto. He moved backed to Vancouver and became a weather radar scientist with Environment Canada, and then became an air quality scientist.  His present work combines his weather radar and air quality backgrounds by investigating wildfire plume detection by weather radar. Wildfires have major impacts on air quality and health, and forecasting of wildfire plumes is extremely challenging. Robert will present the main concepts and show examples of wildfire plumes detected by Canadian weather radars.

Also, we will have representation from PIPSC to speak to the issues that concern you, such as Phoenix, ESWP (sick leave), GC WorkPlace (WorkPlace 2.0 and ABW), and details for the recently signed SP collective agreement.  Attending and speaking will be Robert MacDonald, BC Regional Director, and Elizabeth Ptasznik, SP Group National Executive.
