PIPSC ISC-FNIHB National Consultation Committee

Attention : Ginette Tardif

SUBJECT : Travelling Time for FNIHB Nurses

Dear Ginette,

The First Nation and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) recognizes the important role FNIHB nurses play in delivering primary and home care services in First Nation communities across Canada. We are both fully committed to working with PIPSC ISC- FNIHB National Consultation Committee (Committee) to examine the issue of travel time compensation for nurses of the SH bargaining unit working in remote and isolated communities as defined in Appendix ‘A’ of the National Joint Council’s Isolated Post and Government Housing Directive.

Over the next few months, we will consult with the Committee to assess their needs and concerns related to the compensation of FNIHB nurses’ travel time when they are required to travel outside their headquarters area or to remote or isolated communities. We will also work internal to FNIHB with our senior management team to gather information about the current regional approaches related to travel compensation, in an effort to identify possible measures that may be applied across the Branch.

The Department (FNIHB) may consider the development of a Branch-specific policy/directive based on input from the Union, internal information gathering, and Departmental resource availability.

Should you have any questions or concerns about this proposal, please do not hesitate to contact Bonnie Beach (Director Nursing Now Canada) or Stephane Chartrand (Manager, Labour Relations).

Yours sincerely,

Valerie Gideon   Keith Conn
