In the spring of 2024, PIPSC notified their members that the employer was applying for an extension to complete the pay equity process. PIPSC had the opportunity to respond to the Pay Equity Commission on whether they supported the application or not. In our submission to the commission, we included that we understood that the process must take place to close any wage gaps for female dominated jobs.
The extension request was approved by the Pay Equity Commission for an additional twenty four months. This extension doesn’t negate the employer’s responsibility for payments and interest to employees in positions that are determined to be female dominated jobs with a wage gap.
The employer hired KPMG to assist in creating a job evaluation tool. The committee has been testing various job descriptions through the tool to ensure that it is compliant and captures the work at NRC.
