We have some great spring news to share about the team, the work we’ve accomplished and upcoming changes. Remember that we’re here for you whenever you need. We can advise and guide you, and suggest options or avenues for recourse that you may not have considered. Feel free to contact us. Why run around in circles looking for help when all the resources you need are right here?

Now, on to the good news.

$1,000 for Phoenix

Current and former members will be eligible to receive an additional amount of up to $1,000 for the delay in the implementation of their 2014 collective agreement. You could be eligible to receive a payment of up to $1,000. Your amount is calculated according to the year you occupied a position represented by PIPSC: $400 for 2016–17, and $200 for each of the 2017–18, 2018–19 and 2019–20 fiscal years.

Union representative team

Fresh faces have arrived! A new steward has joined the team: Lydia Côté—the brains behind the unionization of the Saint-Sulpice bar in Montreal in 2000—returns to union activities to support and represent members with her famed passion and energy. Carla Jones also joins the group from the Vancouver office. She will begin her steward training shortly. The team is looking forward to Carla’s energy and fresh ideas.

Spring AGM

Our Annual General Meeting this spring will celebrate in style the outstanding achievements of our President, Claude Lord, who has led the group for the past 12 years. Executive elections will also be held. Details on the event will be sent out at a later date.

Overtime

There will be a presentation on overtime this spring covering all possible scenarios with clear explanations on what they involve, what can be declared, in what context and when, etc. If you have questions or concerns about your overtime following these presentations (which will be attended by at least one of your union representatives), please contact us. The document you receive and the presentations are the result of a collaboration between the human resources team and the unions.

Equity, diversity and inclusion

In keeping with the strategic plan’s mandate, an inter-union committee on equity, diversity and inclusion examines questions or concerns related to employee-employer relationships. We are seeking a representative within the union to oversee this file. If you are interested, please reach out to your stewards.

Heavy workloads

While this may not exactly be a positive, the good news is that it’s on our agenda. Following the emergency meeting at the end of last year, certain red zones and issues were not resolved quickly enough. At this early stage of the year, some teams are exhausted. We are going to look into this issue to determine whether decisions need to be taken. Feel free to tell us how your teams are coping.

Even in the springtime, the EAP is always there for you: 1-800-268-7708.

(1-800-567-5803 – for people with hearing impairments).

The NFB’s PIPSC stewards are Jean-Eddyson Cadet, Philippe Chartrand, Darin Clausen, Lydia Côté, Florence François, Marco Girouard, Claude Lord and Mathieu Sheehy.  They are working for you on several issues. Carla Marie Jones has also just joined the team. We are seeking several members to get involved on various committees or to represent certain issues. Stay informed.

We look forward to seeing you again!
