- A ITOMSG Lunch and Learn was held at the DND All Ranks Mess at CFS Leitrim on 22 Jan 2025. The event was coordinated by the ITOMSG Executive with Mr Curson as the onsite facilitator. 31 IT members, including 2 very recent hires (less than one week with DND) participated.
- The event consisted of pizza and coffee with bar service available for those wishing to partake. PIPSC and ITOMSG executives provided introductory briefs prior to opening the floor for questions and discussion. Promotional items were provided.
- Two presentations were given. Thanks to Dave Sutherland for his description of how PIPSC works, and to Randy Oomen for a progress report on the IT Group and an update on the bargaining survey.
- Key issues introduced during the briefs which appeared to spark interest included the availability of training, the requirement for all members to validate and update personal information held by the union, the opportunity for members to become stewards, the importance each member to have a voice to promote topics of concern to the collective bargaining team, and the importance of member participation in future union activities (ie AGMs).
- Topics raised by members during discussion included:
- Questions about return to work policy and direction;
- Insufficient availability of desks upon return to work;
- Telework agreements;
- How does one get their position reclassified to meet the volume and level of work assigned and performed;
- Where does one get a paper copy of the collective agreement;
- What is the process to become a steward;
- How does a member request a printed (book) copy of the collective agreement; and
- How does one engage the union if a member experiences an issue in the workplace.
- All questions were fielded, and contact info was provided to members who wished future one to one discussion.
- As the number of shirts required in the various member sized was insufficient, a list of shirt sizes was collected for future delivery.
