Dear colleagues,

On August 22, 2024, we provided a brief update indicating that we had reached a tentative agreement with the CFIA. The CFIA-VM Group membership must now ratify this agreement. We are pleased to share that we have obtained increases comparable to those of the rest of the public service, including retro-pay, with some additional adjustments to address the recruitment issues faced by our Group.

Economic Increases and Adjustments

  • Effective October 1, 2022 – 3.50% (economic increase)
  • Effective October 1, 2022 – 1.25% (wage adjustment)
  • Effective October 1, 2023 – 3.00% (economic increase)
  • Effective October 1, 2023 – 0.50% (pay line adjustment)
  • Effective October 1, 2024 – 2.00% (economic increase)
  • Effective October 1, 2024 – 0.25% (wage adjustment)
  • Effective October 1, 2025 – 2.00% (economic increase)

Pay Grid Adjustments to address recruitment

  • Effective October 1, 2025 – A restructure of the VM-01 pay scale to drop one step at the minimum and add one step of 4% at the maximum.
  • Effective October 1, 2025 – A restructure of the VM-02 pay scale to add one step of 4% at the maximum.

The agreement also includes the following major wins for our members:

  • $2,500 pensionable one-time lump-sum allowance
  • Letter of agreement giving employees stronger protections and rights around remote work
  • Improvements relating to career development, bereavement, care, and family-related leave provisions.

A ratification package containing full agreement details will be posted to our group page shortly. Your bargaining team will also host webinars to discuss the details of this tentative agreement before the vote.
