ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

April 25, 2016, 5 p.m.

Location: Buffet des Continents, 340 Belvédère Street South, Sherbrooke

1. Call to Order at 5:15 p.m.

Liette Manseau introduced the Branch Executive members as well as Yvon Brodeur, Quebec Regional Director.

Mélissa Wingeat introduced the AFS Sub-Group Executive and Steve Parent, AFS Group Regional Representative and member of the bargaining team.

Fifty-three members participated in the AGM.

2. Review and Approval of the Agenda

Liette Manseau read the agenda. No additions were made.

3. Reading and Adoption of the Minutes of the Last AGM (April 27, 2015)

It was unanimously agreed that the minutes of the joint AFS Sub-Group / Sherbrooke Branch AGM, held April 27, 2015, would not be read.

5. Reports by the Presidents

Sherbrooke Branch President’s Report

The 2015 report, prepared by Liette Manseau, had been previously emailed to all members for consultation. No issues were raised by the members.

Report Summary:

  • Three new members were added to the Executive: Mélissa Wingeat, Benoît Pelletier and Luc Carrière
  • Two events for Branch members
    • June 18, 2015: Public Service Week (pizza lunch)
    • September 21, 2015: Rally on King Street West with MP present
  • 2015: A number of unions presented a common front
  • Invitation to participate in the events organized
  • Expression of thanks

Sherbrooke AFS Sub-Group President’s Report

The 2015 report, prepared by Mélissa Wingeat, had been previously emailed to all members for consultation. No issues were raised by the members.

Report summary:

  • Staffing for 2014
  • Four meetings during the year
  • Grievances
  • Participation in various meetings and conference calls
  • June 18, 2015: Public Service Week (pizza lunch with two thirds of the members).

9. Election – Sherbrooke Branch and AFS Sub-Group

Liette Manseau explained that the Sherbrooke Branch does not have an election committee. Three new members joined the Executive and one person stepped down, leaving two positions vacant. Unless we have more than two new people, we will confirm the acting nominations.

10. Other Business

Presentation by Yvon Brodeur

  • Mr. Brodeur addressed the following points:
  • 2016 federal election
  • Training on lobbying: meeting with MPs from the different parties
  • Public Service Week: restoring its image
  • Have our T-shirts made in Quebec (part of job action).
  • Member involvement

Presentation by Steve Parent

  • Mr. Parent discussed the following topics:
  • Federal election (first time PIPSC has gotten involved).
  • Various acts that the Liberals want to repeal.
  • Current grievance
  • Negotiations for the collective agreement (over the last year): ± 150 items to be discussed
  • Black shirts on Wednesdays (bargaining days)
  • Outsourcing issue.

Steward Recruitment

Liette Manseau urged members to get involved and serve on the Sherbrooke Branch Executive. She underscored the importance of supporting their union representatives.

Presentation by Christopher Galvin (Social Delegate)

Mr. Galvin discussed the following:

  • Steps to replace the EAP
  • Listening to co-workers to promote their well-being
  • Helping and guiding employees
  • Being mutually supportive

Closing Remarks by Liette Manseau

Liette Manseau announced that she would be retiring in December 2016 and underscored her belief in union representation and member participation.
