The following is a brief summary of the October 2024 Advisory Council. If you have any questions, please

  • Public Service Disability Plan continues to have a significant backlog in appeals. The Bargaining Agents want to have the plan converted to an administrative plan like we currently have for Health and Dental.
  • New election software has survived the “stress test” and is ready for the 2024 National Election Ballots are expected to go out October 15th.
  • The Board of Directors have been having significant conversation on cost containment and various contingency plans if a Member’s Dues increase is not passed at this AGM.
  • Presentation provided on the current senior staff structure and the process undertaken by HR for ongoing staffing requests
    • A Governance Overview is being undertaken by the Board of Directors, supported by a third party who specializes in not-for-profit governance.
  • Some of the focused clean-up of the By-laws will come up in the form of resolutions at the upcoming AGM while other parts of the review will continue in additional phases.
  • The President provided a report that outlined
    • Current relations with the Treasury Board Secretariat are not in a good place right now.
    • Lots of confusion between and within Departments on the roll-out of Return to the office.
    • TBS “consulted” on their guidance regarding Public Service use of social media – all unions opposed what has been presented.
    • Looking at the British Columbia and New Brunswick provincial elections and how that might impact our Provincial members.
    • Work going into supporting the campaign against the increased violence against health workers.
  • AC Director Election was held. Permission to release results was provided by the Elections Committee. Congratulations to Chris Roach.
  • High level review of the Resolutions that have been posted for the PIPSC AGM was carried out for Advisory Council consideration.
