Greetings fellow IT Members. It has been my honour to serve you on the IT National Executive over the past 2 terms.  I have demonstrated commitment, loyalty and a hard work ethic to our Members, the IT Executive, and our Union. I am proud to represent such an amazing group of individuals whose work allow Canadians to receive the services they rely on.

I humbly ask you to return me to the IT Group National Executive. This will be the last time I put my name forward as I believe we need to know when to step back and allow new activists the opportunity to move the IT group into the future.

I have on your behalf:

  • Challenged departments to comply with article 30 on contracting out
  • Monitored, questioned, and grieved contract tenders
  • Created the Young Professionals Committee specific to the IT Group
  • Lobbied MPs on IT Group concerns
  • Represented IT Members on workplace issues
  • Facilitated information sessions both in person and virtually
  • Provided IT Group updates to PIPSC Consultation Team Presidents
  • Worked effectively with Institute staff and other elected officials
  • Mentored and provided training to Stewards
  • Promoted the interests of the IT Group and its members every day of my term in office
  • Successfully negotiated a new collective agreement which included 1.5% parity with other IT workers

My goal over the next term is to:

  • Create a new strategic approach to challenge the abuse of contracting out our work
  • Lobby the government on the importance of reducing the abuse and reliance on contractors
  • Represent you on the new Interdepartmental Joint Consultation Committee
  • Consult with Treasury Board on career advancement, language requirements, training, and performance agreements
  • Negotiate a fair collective agreement
  • Promote public awareness of privatization, its inherent inefficiency, and detrimental effect on the quality of services to Canadians
  • Represent members affected by the Phoenix pay system
  • Promote IT young professionals

Experience:

  • 2 years, Contracting Out Officer, IT National Executive
  • 5 years, Consultation & Labour Relations Officer, IT National Executive
  • 6 years, IT National Executive
  • Member, IT Bargaining Team
  • Member, IT Group MOA on Contracting Out Committee
  • 6 years, IT Group Regional Organizing Committee Chair
  • Past President, Toronto IT Subgroup
  • Vice President, ESDC National Consultation Team
  • 7 years Branch Liaison Officer, Ontario Regional Executive
  • Founding Vice President, Greater Toronto Area Branch
  • 18 years, PIPSC Steward

The Executive needs to involve and continually take the pulse of IT members. We need to know what you want in bargaining, workplace benefits, representation and engage youth in our union. The IT Executive work for and on behalf of all IT members across Government. I would love to hear from you to discuss what we can do for you and to collect creative ways to promote ITs in our hybrid work environment.

Thank you for your consideration. I hope that I can rely on your support to re-elect me to the IT National Executive.

In solidarity,

Yvonne Snaddon
