I have been a Clinical Social Worker at the St. John’s Parole Office/ NL CCC since 2017. I earned my Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from MUN in 2003 and gained experience working in many non-profit community agencies in Nova Scotia. In 2009, I graduated from St Thomas University in Fredericton, NB with my Post-degree Bachelor of Social Work. I worked in Mental Health and Addictions in New Brunswick before returning home to NL in 2012 when my son was born to be closer to family. From 2012-2016 I worked in several non-profit organizations, gaining experience in direct client services. With two small children at home, I completed my MSW part-time while working at CSC and graduated in 2019. So far in my social work career, I have worked primarily in mental health in various settings, including hospitals, non-profit organizations, the military, and most recently the correctional system.
I believe in a work-life balance for our members and in the need for advocacy in the area of safety for our members, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic. I have had the opportunity to work closely with many PIPSC SH members while working in the public service and I feel strongly that we have such a strong membership, with unique skills and experience to contribute to our respective workplaces. I believe that Covid-19 has highlighted how important our group of professionals are to the public service, by stepping up to the challenge and adapting to each changing need. I feel that I could bring hard work, strong advocacy skills, and a continued team approach to the PIPSC SH group. I would like to ask for your vote in the upcoming election and would consider it a privilege to represent our members in this new capacity.
