Sudbury/ North Bay Branch Minutes - September 28, 2022
Attendance:
The AGM had an attendance of 15 members and 3 guest, Doug Mason, AFS President, Shawn Gillis AFS Ontario Regional Representative and Yvonne Snaddon, National IT Executive Representative
Meeting was Called to Order: 6:15 pm
Motion to Approve Agenda – Motioned by Linda seconded by Bridget Brawley
Motion to Approve the 2019 Minutes – Motioned by Evan Grayson and seconded by Darius Garneau.
President’s Opening Remarks and Report Sudbury North Bay Branch/Sudbury AFS Sub-Group (attached report)
Linda welcomed all members to the meeting and thanked the invited guest for attending. She introduced the current Executives. During the remarks Linda stressed the importance of participating in the Union, either by becoming a steward, a member of the Executive, or a Member at Large. The pandemic had a detrimental effect on our Sub-Group, as seen in the room, the number of attendees is less than half of normal participants.
Linda talked about the need to change our services, with more members working at remote locations we need to become more flexible to accommodate their needs.
Linda explained that Elections were taking place this evening and encouraged the members to participate. Linda thanked the group for their support over the past 10 years and has made a decision to step down from the role of Branch President.
Treasurers Report – Sudbury/ North Bay Branch
Penny has stepped down from the position and Linda has thanked Penny for all of her service and dedication to the Union over the years.

A motion to approve the Sudbury North Bay Branch Financial Statements by Dana Lynn Burton, and seconded Bavi Jeganathan. Passed
Branch Update:
Bridget Brawley spoke of activities taken place for the Ontario Region. She spoke of the various branch functions and the activities that are taking place. There are several Groups in bargaining at the moment. Bridget provided an overview of the Steward Council that was held earlier in September and Labour School that was held in May.
Bridget discussed and stressed the importance of getting involved with the Union. Either as a member of the Executive, or a Steward.
Doug Mason:
Discussed the impacts of the changes to the Medical Benefits that will take effect July 1, 2023. Some of the highlights include routine prescriptions will be issued for 90 days. There will be no medical note required for massages and physiotherapy.
Dental Care Plan is due for renewal.

Doug Mason & Shawn Gillis – met with the AFS Sub-Group members and discussed current events and negotiation preparations that are underway.
