Shamil Cathum - SP Group

I came to the public service from the private sector working as an R&D scientist at Science Applications International Corporation. I soon learned that PIPSC members at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) needed to remain engaged with the union. So, I gave it a try. Now, I am SP NCR Sub-group Executive, PIPSC Steward, ECCC National Consultation Team, dedicating my time to managing group finance and assisting members on various issues. In my spare time, I enjoy playing violin to stay relaxed and productive. With PIPSC support I organized lunch & learn sessions focusing on bargaining and exchanging information. When it was difficult to conduct one at worksite, I immediately arranged for outside gathering. The best experience was the one conducted at a church nearby the Fontaine Building “Paroisse Notre-Dame-De-L'Ile”, Gatineau. I helped members to meet with PIPSC leaders in friendly environments and ask questions, accomplished through event networking including boat cruise, maple festival, movie, and BBQ. I supported our members who participated in the workplace charitable campaign - received compliments. I learned so many ideas and tools that can engage our members even more; and I am willing to extend them to the SP group; vote Shamil Cathum.
