Thanks to all my years as a Steward, Sub-Group President and OHS Co-chair, I have an intimate knowledge of the tools at our disposal for representing employees. I am acutely aware of the importance of having a receptive Regional Representative who is ready to listen and act effectively, as not all matters can be resolved locally. You can count on me.
There are also some specific issues on my agenda:
COVID-19:
I have been on the local OHS Committee for almost 20 years. I will make sure that operations are relaunched in compliance with national and provincial guidelines through regular meetings with Presidents. Teleworking employees have a right to suitable ergonomic office equipment.
Flexible schedule:
I understand that employees require more flexibility, whether they are working in the office or remotely. The terms included in the pilot project are inadequate and this policy must be improved. Work-life balance is a key issue for me.
Staffing:
More management positions should be filled in the regions rather than at NHQ, which is possible now more than ever through Telework. The right to staffing recourse must be better protected and requires more transparency. The linguistic profile of positions must be clearly identified to remove unjustified barriers to employee progression.
Collaborate more:
I would like to hold regular calls with Presidents and get their contribution to agendas based on issues specific to their offices. I will also focus on ensuring that policies are applied uniformly across all offices, including staffing, flexibility, “storm” days and more. Employees will have no problem getting hold of me.
