PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Randy Oomen reported on the IT Group Executive election results that were given at the IT Group AGM. He also mentioned that job cuts are happening across the government and that they will affect some IT members. The PIPSC AGM will be held in December, but the delegate applications aren’t available yet. He has had a conversation with Daniel Shen and Greg Scriver about sharing the setup and cost of a future event. He is going to draft an email and send it to Steve Anderson so that it can be sent to Ottawa Centreville Branch to see if they are interested in joining in. He mentioned that there will likely be an email vote sent to the Metro Executive in the near future to approve this expenditure.
VICE-PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Cheryl Jennings and Antwan Hakko are continuing to develop a list of active Metro stewards (there are approximately 12). Cheryl also mentioned that she is keeping a running inventory of Metro promotional items – most of which she is storing in her residence.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Brian also mentioned that next year’s funding allocation from PIPSC will be sent in soon. Our funding is based on the number of members we have, which is always shifting. He also clarified that only the Metro President can request the membership list – and then only once a year.
SECRETARY’S REPORT
Steve Anderson said that all Secretarial work is up to date, and that the November meeting minutes have been translated and posted to the Metro website. The various monetary guidelines and approvals passed by Metro since our last AGM have been kept up to date in a file on the shared drive.
REPORT ON THE MARCH 21 2025 IRCC LUNCH N’ LEARN
Randy Oomen gave a brief summary of the successful IRCC Lunch n’ Learn held on March 21st. The written report will be posted on the Metro website under the “Events” tab.
NEW ITOMSG BANNER
The banner has been purchased and is being kept by Randy until it can be deployed.
PROMO ITEMS REPORT
There was further discussion on possible promotional items to be purchased once our yearly allocation is applied for from PIPSC. Interest was expressed in dongles, memo blocks, charcuterie boards, shirts, jackets. Cheryl is to check with Better Together to see if they have any more memo blocks in stock. Yazhuo is to cost out the purchase of 12 Metro Executive shirts and possible jackets. Steve is to send Yazhuo some pics/links of possible jackets.
SUMMER EVENTS
Antwan Hakko will organize a Lunch n’ Learn at NRCAN.
Randy mentioned that there will be a lunch on King Edward on June 20th , and that he will attend with our new banner. An on-site BBQ provider has been arranged. Thank you to Hannah for initiating this event.
Steve mentioned that he will host a small informal lunch for 5 or 6 members on June 17th.
There was some thought given to the next Metro AGM – it will likely be held in October 2025.
Other possible summer events: comedy club night, bowling, mini-golf, virtual reality.
ROUNDTABLE
Antwan Hakko has now completed his basic Steward training. He reported that there were lots of IT Stewards enrolled in the course. He has attended some PIPSC Young Professional events and reports that they are interesting and social.
NEXT MEETING
No date was set for the next ITOMSG meeting, but it will likely be held in late August or early September. Steve Anderson is to investigate if there are private rooms available at nearby Mandarin restaurants.
MOTION To adjourn, at 13:30. M/S Cheryl Jennings, Steve Anderson. Carried.
