Aaron Thompson for Ontario Representative
Since joining the NR Group Executive in 2024, I have served as Chair of the Elections Committee, ensuring a fair process and effectively managing complaints. As current Bylaw Coordinator, I’m working to update our group Bylaws and support PIPSC AGM resolutions aimed at reducing unnecessary expenditures.
I contributed to selecting our new bargaining team, representing engineers, architects and land surveyors, which will bring fresh perspectives while leveraging the experience of long-standing executive members. We have also initiated a committee with Treasury Board to discuss better knowledge of Article 18 of the collective agreement across the government.
A PIPSC steward since 2005, I’ve completed basic, advanced and additional training. I have extensive experience representing members in grievances, conflict resolution, and union-management consultations, and I serve on the ECCC consultation team. I have also been trained to help members deal with potential workforce adjustment. My involvement with PIPSC dates back to 1999 in the Hamilton/Burlington Branch and NR Subgroup.
Professionally, I hold a non-excluded ENG-05 management position with the National Hydrological Service at Environment and Climate Change Canada. I lead a division of engineers focused on water resources and am deeply aware of the challenges engineers face in the workplace and at home, particularly with rising costs.
My experience with the NR Group executive has been positive thus far and we are working cohesively. I respectfully seek your support to continue applying my broad professional and union experience to advocate for NR members across Canada.
In solidarity,
Aaron Thompson, P.Eng.
